#wearetheMCF – Caroline

“I moved from Africa to the UK in 1988, and settled in Harrow, North London.

I started off in the corporate world working for the National Lottery, but then had a career break to have my two children. Once they were all grown up, I came and worked for The Freemasons’ Grand Charity as I wanted to have a different career focus. I saw an advertisement that the Grand Charity had put out that was a year-long contract, so I thought I’d give it a go for a year and see where it took me. Seven years later, I’m still here!

Obviously, my role has evolved and changed enormously with the merging of all the charities – it has been interesting and exciting time for me. I’m always very humbled by the amount of money that is raised by our donors – I think it’s quite remarkable. The responsibility that we have to ensure that we are spending their money correctly is huge, but I really enjoy researching different charities and informing the successful charities from their applications.

I also enjoy going to see their work first-hand – it makes you realise that you’re truly helping to make a difference in people’s lives.”
